Belief and trust has content, and the Truth that Jesus' Messiahship is presented that He is The Son of God. People are to trust in the knowledge of who he is. The statement to believe in Him was made for those who have believed since His ascension. Jesus knew tangible evidence would not be available and many would believe without seeing their Resurrected Lord and Saviour.
