MICAH Minor Prophet of Pre-exile era date 750-686 B.C
One third of the Book of Micah exposes the sin of the Southern Kingdom of Judah, especially the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Micah means who is like God?
The Book of Micah addresses idolatry and immorality. The prophet Micah boldly opposed corrupt rulers and officials and false prophets, especially judges who took bribes and trader who used illegal weights. The Book exhorts God's people to do justly and have good ethics, have consideration for others. The prophet used many figures of speech and a play on words through his messages to those in Jerusalem.
Assyria took the Northern Kingdom of Israel into captivity at this point in time, which is predicted in the Book as well as the desolation of Judah.
The Book's messages are of doom and hope. Zion is to have greater glory than ever before through the coming Messianic deliverer. The prophet's focus narrows from a remnant to a certain restoration King. The prophet Micah lived 700 years before the event of The Messiah and in the prophet's text is recorded the predicted birthplace, work and resurrection of Christ.
The Book of the prophet Micah is the sixth Book of the Minor Prophetical Books of which there are twelve. The text includes Hebrew Poetry and Pre-exile History.
MAIN POINTS
MICAH 7:9(b)
" GOD WILL BRING ME OUT OF DARKNESS
INTO THE LIGHT AND I WILL SEE HIS GOODNESS"
After repentance, there should be anticipation to see the restoration work of God. Believers can be confident of God's favourable actions on their behalf. Believers are redeemed from all forms of bondage and oppression God personally renews His people. Restoration is achieved through the redeeming work of Jesus Christ. Through Christ there is available restoration to health, life, sight, spiritual blindness to spiritual sight, spiritual death to spiritual life. God brings to His people regeneration as part of the process of redemption.
The transformation by God of the lives of His people leads to illumination. People experience an inward change and live obedient lives for The Glory of God, they delight in worshipping God, generous giving of self to others and are zealous for the work of God.
Spiritual life is brought to those who were dead in sin. This work originates in God the Father, made possible by the death and resurrection of Jesus, by hearing the Word of God. The Holy Spirit activates the Word of God.
The results are entry into the Kingdom of God, a new holiness in life and love for others, victory of a sinful pattern of life.
Christ is portrayed as The Righteous Everlasting Reign of Christ, Royal Restorer.
