God is light and just as the followers of Jesus reflect the brighteness that comes from Him, they too, are light in the world. Jesus is the Light of God that lightens the way for us to True existence. He is the light that opens eyes of spiritual understanding and guides them in to all truth and the flame that ignites the realization of what God has done for our most important needs. The Jews lit candles at the feast of the Tabernacles and Jesus said this as the ceremony was performed. The Festival was performed to remember how the Israelites were led through the wilderness with Moses after leaving Egypt behind, guided by a pillar of light from God. Here is one of the times Jesus was claiming His Deity.
