Angels were heralds of the new-born Saviour. God established His work by a confirmatory sign, that the Saviour would be a babe in swaddling clothes in a manger.
The title Lord was previously reserved for the Father but now applied to The Messiah, The Mighty Deliverer and proclaimed as such by the angelic beings. Lord is a sign of Jesus Christ's divinity and His absolute authority.
