THE WORD OF
GOD ON HOMOSEXUALITY
AND THOSE PUT IN AUTHORITY AMONGST GOD'S PEOPLE
-HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE NEW TESTAMENT-
When Jesus
spoke about sexual relationships,
He only gave two alternatives,
to be faithful to your partner in marriage
of the opposite sex,
and the other, celibacy.
Jesus did however, permit divorce between spouses, for a few select reasons, (adultery and fornication) because of the hardness of the people.
A sexual relationship between people of the same sex is incompatible with The Kingdom of God. It is one of the consequences of rejecting God and is the result of deliberate inticement or persuasion of someone who has already abandoned godly principles. Calling oneself a Christian while continuing to live an immoral life is reprehensible and degrading and gives a false testimony of Christ.
It is up to individuals to read the word of
God, if His Word is being taught or not being taught from the pulpit. It
is the responsibility of Christian, and Christians are told to do so in
the New Testament.
If the true Christian has intimate association
with someone who does this, the non-Christian world may assume that the
church approves such immoral, ungodly behaviour and by living like so the
Name of Christ would be dishonoured. Question could arise concerning the
true character of the Christian's own testimony.
The church is to exercise spiritual discipline over the professing believer
in a church but it is not to attempt to judge the unsaved. God will judge
the outsider, but the church is to expel the immoral from amongst them
if they do not repent and change their
way of living.
This is not a new thought in the New Testament but it is recalled from
the Old Testament of the exclusion of immoral persons from the assembly
of Israel.
Hundreds of years before the Mosaic Law opposed sexual relationships with the same sex, cities were destroyed because of it. So it is a standing principle, not to be twisted that The Bible is outdated and just not 'up with the times'
Jude 1:7 KJV Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. 8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. Jude 1:7 The Living Bible And don't forget the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, all full of lust of every kind, including lust of men for other men. Those cities were destroyed by fire and continue to be a warning to us that there is a hell in which sinners are punished. Jude1:7 NIV In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire. 8 In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject authority and slander celestial beings.
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah by pouring "burning sulphur"-a foretaste of the eternal fire that is to come.
2Peter2:6 KJV And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; 2Peter2:6 The Living Bible6 Later, he turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into heaps of ashes and blotted them off the face of the earth, making them an example for all the ungodly in the future to look back upon and fear. 2Peter2:6 NIV he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
These verses are written to us about following the corrupt desire of the sinful nature, referring to homosexuality, the sin of the Sodomites. Sodomy is the real name for Homosexuality.
1Corinthians5:7-13 KVJ7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. 11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? 13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. 1Corinthians5:7,8,9,10,11,12,13 The Living Bible6 What a terrible thing it is that you are boasting about your purity and yet you let this sort of thing go on. Don't you realize that if even one person is allowed to go on sinning, soon all will be affected? 7 Remove this evil cancer--this wicked person--from among you, so that you can stay pure. Christ, God's Lamb, has been slain for us. 8 So let us feast upon him and grow strong in the Christian life, leaving entirely behind us the cancerous old life with all its hatreds and wickedness. Let us feast instead upon the pure bread of honor and sincerity and truth. 9 When I wrote to you before I said not to mix with evil people. 10 But when I said that I wasn't talking about unbelievers who live in sexual sin or are greedy cheats and thieves and idol worshipers. For you can't live in this world without being with people like that. 11 What I meant was that you are not to keep company with anyone who claims to be a brother Christian but indulges in sexual sins, or is greedy, or is a swindler, or worships idols, or is a drunkard, or abusive. Don't even eat lunch with such a person. 12 It isn't our job to judge outsiders. But it certainly is our job to judge and deal strongly with those who are members of the church and who are sinning in these ways. 13 God alone is the Judge of those on the outside. But you yourselves must deal with this man and put him out of your church. 1Corinthians5:7,8,9,10,11,12,13 NIV Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? 7 Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast--as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8 Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. 9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people-- 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."
Paul calls on the Christians and Christian
Leaders to become holy in conduct, living the Christian life in holy dedication
to God and not getting involved in such sins.
Paul explains to the Corinthian Christians that they themselves should
not disassociate themselves from all immoral persons, including non-Christian
people, but that they should separate themselves from immoral persons in
the church, who claimed to be Christian brothers and sisters, those who
call themselves Christians. He also reminds them that they too, were once
like them, before becoming Christians, and were not so any more.
1Corinthians6:8,9,10,11 KJV 8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren. 9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1Corinthians6:8,9,10,11 The Living BIble 8 But, instead, you yourselves are the ones who do wrong, cheating others, even your own brothers. 9 Don't you know that those doing such things have no share in the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who live immoral lives, who are idol worshipers, adulterers or homosexuals--will have no share in his Kingdom. 10 Neither will thieves or greedy people, drunkards, slanderers, or robbers. 11 There was a time when some of you were just like that but now your sins are washed away, and you are set apart for God; and he has accepted you because of what the Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God have done for you. 1Corinthians6:8,9,10,11 NIV 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Paul identifies three kinds of sexual immoral
persons, adulterers, male prostitutes and males who practice homosexuality;
he adds the category of females who practice homosexuality in the following
verses from the Book of Romans.
People who engage in such practices, as well as the other offenders listed
in verses 9-10 are explicitly excluded from God's Kingdom, unless repentant
and turn from an immoral life style.
When Christ spoke to the adulterous woman, he forgave her but cautioned
her, to sin no more.
Romans1:21-29 KJV 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Romans1:21-32 The Living Bible 21 Yes, they knew about him all right, but they wouldn't admit it or worship him or even thank him for all his daily care. And after awhile they began to think up silly ideas of what God was like and what he wanted them to do. The result was that their foolish minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming themselves to be wise without God, they became utter fools instead. 23 And then, instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they took wood and stone and made idols for themselves, carving them to look like mere birds and animals and snakes and puny men. 24 So God let them go ahead into every sort of sex sin, and do whatever they wanted to--yes, vile and sinful things with each other's bodies. 25 Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they prayed to the things God made, but wouldn't obey the blessed God who made these things. 26 That is why God let go of them and let them do all these evil things, so that even their women turned against God's natural plan for them and indulged in sex sin with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sex relationships with women, burned with lust for each other, men doing shameful things with other men and, as a result, getting paid within their own souls with the penalty they so richly deserved. 28 So it was that when they gave God up and would not even acknowledge him, God gave them up to doing everything their evil minds could think of. 29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness and sin, of greed and hate, envy, murder, fighting, lying, bitterness, and gossip. 30 They were backbiters, haters of God, insolent, proud, braggarts, always thinking of new ways of sinning and continually being disobedient to their parents. 31 They tried to misunderstand, broke their promises, and were heartless--without pity. 32 They were fully aware of God's death penalty for these crimes, yet they went right ahead and did them anyway and encouraged others to do them, too. Romans1:21-32 NIV 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. 28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Paul is speaking about God's Wrath on sin,
a holy just revulsion against what is contrary to and opposes His Holy
Nature and His Will (i.e. like oil and water, cannot be mixed together,
cannot be joined) . God's Wrath is not limited to end-time judgement of
the wicked. Here, the Wrath of God is His abandonment of the wicked to
their sins. God allows sin to run its course as an act of judgement.
Homosexual practice is sinful in God's eyes; The Old Testament also condemns
the practice. Their conduct is not due to total ignorance of what God requires,
but to the outrageous rebellion and self-will. The church (which is The
Body of Christ is told from the Word of God not to approve of those who
practice as such stated.
The extreme of the sin is appalling. Rather than regretting the sins of
others, this is where the Church is the guide and should not compromise
The Word of God, but obey it.
Note the list of the unrighteous, who shall
not inherit the Kingdom of God (it is also meant spiritually), all these
acts which people take part in and do, listed here, are helped out of their
problems by society, by the church, doctors or by the law for their problems,
the homosexuals are the only ones in the list who have somehow been bypassed
as needing help and have now turned around and accuse the public of being
phobic about the practice.
Why, out of all those problems listed, the only accepted act that is being
recognized by a lax society, as normal?
-HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE OLD TESTAMENT-
In Old Testament times the penalty of homosexuality
was death, for they had to be totally expelled from Israel. God's morals
and principals of His morality do not change according to the times or
cultures or traditions of men.
The Old Testament is there for our example, to learn not to make the same
mistakes.
In Genesis 19:55 homosexuality (sodomy) was a characteristic of the people
of Sodom, and God made His judgement upon it.
Genesis19:5 KJV 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them. Genesis19:5 The Living Bible 5 and shouted to Lot, "Bring out those men to us so we can rape them." Genesis19:5 NIV 5 They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them."
Leviticus18:22 KJV 22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Laviticus18:2 The Living Bible 22 "Homosexuality is absolutely forbidden, for it is an enormous sin. Leviticus18:2 NIV 22 "'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
Leviticus18:26 KJV 26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: Leviticus18:26 The Living Bible 26 You must strictly obey all of my laws and ordinances, and you must not do any of these abominable things; these laws apply both to you who are born in the nation of Israel and to foreigners living among you. Leviticus18:26 NIV 26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
Leviticus20:13 KJV 13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. Leviticus20:13 The Living BIble 13 The penalty for homosexual acts is death to both parties. They have brought it upon themselves. Leviticus20:13 NIV 13 "'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.
Deuteronomy23:17 KJV 17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel. Deuteronomy23:17 The Living BIble 17 "No prostitutes are permitted in Israel, either men or women; Deuteronomy23:17 NIV 17 No Israelite man or woman is to become a shrine prostitute. 18 You must not bring the earnings of a female prostitute or of a male prostitute into the house of the LORD your God to pay any vow, because the LORD your God detests them both.
SHOULD HOMOSEXAULS BE ORDAINED IN CHURCH LEADERSHIP?
-NEW TESTAMENT-
SHOULD A PRACTICING THIEF, PROSTITUTE, AN EXTORTIONER, A DRUNKARD BE IN A POSITION OF AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH? OR ANY PERSONS LISTED IN THE LIST THAT PAUL USES IN ROMANS?
The practice of homosexuality should be an
abomination to Christians who are The Body of Christ, and The Church should
see it as horrific to God, who did not make a mistake when he created man
and woman.
The Christian Church hopefully shall stick to the Word of God and not be
deceived away from God's opinion.
The rise in homosexuality in today's society is a sign of what stage of
decay the world is in and the stages of decay of church doctrines if it
compromises with the world views.
From a Biblical standpoint the leaders of the church and the Christians
themselves should be calling on all homosexuals to repent from their deviant
lifestyle if they wish to be included in the Kingdom of God, the life style
for a Christian is set apart for God and not joined to anything that is
abhorrent to Him.
Paul says that sexual sin is one of the most serious sins.
To live a life of Christian holiness and discipleship, the Church is called
to get rid of the yeast of sin, to stop it from corrupting those who are
new creations in Christ.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THOSE IN LEADERSHIP IN THE BODY OF CHRIST
Titus1:6-9 KJV 6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; 8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Titus1:6,7,8,9 The Living Bible 6 The men you choose must be well thought of for their good lives; they must have only one wife and their children must love the Lord and not have a reputation for being wild or disobedient to their parents. 7 These pastors must be men of blameless lives because they are God's ministers. They must not be proud or impatient; they must not be drunkards or fighters or greedy for money. 8 They must enjoy having guests in their homes and must love all that is good. They must be sensible men, and fair. They must be clean minded and level headed. 9 Their belief in the truth that they have been taught must be strong and steadfast so that they will be able to teach it to others and show those who disagree with them where they are wrong. Titus1:6,7,8,9 NIV 6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7 Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8 Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. 10 For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. 11 They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach--and that for the sake of dishonest gain.
1Timothy3:1-13 KJV 3:1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; 4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless. 11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things. 12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.1Timothy3:1-13 The Living Bible 3:1 It is a true saying that if a man wants to be a pastor he has a good ambition. 2 For a pastor must be a good man whose life cannot be spoken against. He must have only one wife, and he must be hard working and thoughtful, orderly, and full of good deeds. He must enjoy having guests in his home and must be a good Bible teacher. 3 He must not be a drinker or quarrelsome, but he must be gentle and kind and not be one who loves money. 4 He must have a well-behaved family, with children who obey quickly and quietly. 5 For if a man can't make his own little family behave, how can he help the whole church? 6 The pastor must not be a new Christian because he might be proud of being chosen so soon, and pride comes before a fall. (Satan's downfall is an example.) 7 Also, he must be well spoken of by people outside the church--those who aren't Christians--so that Satan can't trap him with many accusations and leave him without freedom to lead his flock. And of deacons and their wives 8 The deacons must be the same sort of good, steady men as the pastors. They must not be heavy drinkers and must not be greedy for money. 9 They must be earnest, wholehearted followers of Christ, who is the hidden Source of their faith. 10 Before they are asked to be deacons, they should be given other jobs in the church as a test of their character and ability, and if they do well, then they may be chosen as deacons. 11 Their wives must be thoughtful, not heavy drinkers, not gossipers, but faithful in everything they do. 12 Deacons should have only one wife, and they should have happy, obedient families. 13 Those who do well as deacons will be well rewarded both by respect from others and also by developing their own confidence and bold trust in the Lord.1Timothy3:1-13 NIV 6 He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7 He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap. 8 Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. 9 They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. 11 In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. 12 A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. 13 Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.
An overseer, elder, bishop were terms that
were interchangeable. Elder indicates qualifications of maturity and experience,
an overseer has responsibility of watching over God's people.
All have a presiding office, to be elected by laypersons, those whom the
Holy Spirit directs them to appoint into leadership. Sound doctrine must
be taught because it protects against anything that would try and corrupt
the faith by the influence of false teachers and doctrines.
The Greek phrase used to 'wives' simply mean the women. The behaviour of
a person in leadership is to be watched closely along with the doctrine
taught.
The behaviour of those ordained persons are to line up with the Word of
God, which totally rules out a homosexual person to be put by others in
that position of authority.
The deliberate and conscious act of homosexuality is in the human heart, as an act of rebellion against God's authority. It is rejection of God's instruction, of His love and of His messages. To rebel against God's Word is to rebel against God Himself. Rejecting God both angers and grieves Him. He is rejected as Creator and with it comes His wrath. God rejects those who reject Him. Homosexuality provokes God's righteous anger for it is sin and disobedience, however God does have compassion and is ever ready to forgive and restore those who repent.
