The Bible expresses to believers
the full assurance in understanding what the scriptures teach so that
believers may have the richness of complete knowledge of being in God‘s
protective care eternally.
Being fully assured and absolutely confident of Salvation
and having Eternal Life is one of the blessings and promises of God that
every Christian has the right to take pleasure in. This assurance comes
through understanding and believing what God’s Word says.
Many believers lack assurance of been saved once having acknowledged and
accepted Christ as their Lord and Saviour, simply because they are unaware of
the completeness of their salvation Jesus provided for them.
Through knowing and accepting The Word of God, Christians
can experience the full assurance of Eternal Life being a present possession.
John 3:16, "For God
so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3: 36 “Whoever
believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not
see life, for God's wrath remains on him."
John 5:24 "I tell you the truth,
whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will
not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”
John 6:47 “I tell you
the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.”
John 10:28-30 “I give
them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of
my hand. 29 My Father, who has given
them to me, is greater than all ; no one can snatch them out of my Father's
hand.30 I and the Father are
one."
1John 5:11-13 “And this
is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his
Son.12 He who has the Son has life;
he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.13 I write these things to you who believe in
the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
There are many Scriptures in the Bible that bring a sure
guarantee to the believer’s heart of their complete preservation and
ownership as God’s child in His Kingdom and being delivered from His wrath
now.
Eternal Life is a gift from God and is for
those who do God's Will and God's Will is to believe The Truth of His Son,
Jesus, as The Only Saviour and Redeemer of Mankind. Eternal life is provided
when a person accepts Christ as his/her Saviour (delivered, rescued from
death), their sins and guilt are cancelled and they are accredited Christ's
righteousness. God promises in His Word those who put their trust and believe
in Christ, who He Is, are not guilty but are now righteous in His Eyes.
Assurance comes from Trust and Belief in God, His Son, The Holy Spirit, His
Word and His promises. God will guard what has been entrusted to Him. Eternal
is a present position now.
This legal declaration of
Justification is valid because Christ died to pay the penalty for mankind.
Christ lived a life of perfect obedience and righteousness. He was obedient
to the Law and this is attributed to the Believer as his/her own. Christ's
humanity was made complete; therefore He became The Source of Eternal
Salvation. He was truly God-man. Assurance is based upon the knowledge
and understanding of God, through His Word and His Creation, His Oath, and
the Resurrection of Jesus, His Son.
Christ gives us His
righteousness freely. It is by God's Grace that His Gift came through
Jesus Christ. This also includes freedom from God's Wrath upon sin that comes
at God's appointed Judgement and is not the choice of man. The Believer no
longer belongs to death, but to Life! Saints have a promise from Christ, that
they will never perish. With Christ there is Life and death cannot triumph
over Him and believers are hid safe in Him, kept secure. Even though heaven
and earth may pass away but never God's salvation, or the covenant
relationship made with God through Christ will ever pass away. God will never
abandon His people. God keeps His promises. God promised that believers can
be assured of Eternal Life. God will not refuse any who come to Him. A
believer's place in God's family is secure. Nothing can separate believers
from God's love. God does not cancel His gifts; people themselves reject the
gift given.
Believers are born not only
to a hope of knowing but also to the inheritance which is eternal and its
preservation is divinely kept for us - a promise of God, and God cannot
lie. His Hand, and His Power, (The Holy Spirit) shield them. The Holy
Spirit assures believers by an inward conviction, and He Himself is the Mark
of God, by which believers are sealed. There is certainty in God because of
His character and the confirmation of His promise of eternity with Him
because of His intervention in human life.
The word salvation in The
Bible is past tense many times, that means eternal life begins the moment
a person believes The Truth of Christ, this is being born again of
The Holy Spirit, as Christ said must happen, into the Kingdom of God;
a reality. Relying on Christ, guarantees safety and freedom from doubt, just
by the knowledge of knowing God has forgiven, in Christ and has
accepted those who are disciples in Christ. Assurance of a right-standing relationship
with God through the Work of Jesus Christ on The Cross, is a secure hope
centred on the person, the promises and actions of God. Jesus abides in
believers and asks that believers remain in Him.
Full Assurance and freedom in Christ is the
Believer's conviction that they are a child of God, co-heir with Christ. This
assurance brings fullness of joy, fullness of confidence of God's Kingdom,
fullness of victory. Assurance cannot really be separated from The Atonement
at the Cross made by Christ and the born-again life. Assurance is also based
upon the testimony of Christ, Himself. Right belief brings righteous inner
reality. Christ's sacrifice on the Cross and by His intercession making
mankind right with God, guarantees Eternal Perfection for Believers. The
equilibrium between divine sovereignty and mortal responsibility must be
continually kept.
Assurance comes from the knowledge of God in creation,
through His mighty acts through history, fulfilled prophecies of His Word,
the testimony of eye witnesses and the testimony of the first apostles.
Believers are assured of the unfailing
love of God, their Heavenly Father, the blessings given by His Divine grace,
adoption into His Kingdom, by the redemption and atoning Work of Christ, by
justification and sanctification. People are assured of Christ's return,
their own resurrection, their eternal inheritance and reward. They are
assured of God's will.
Believers have a sure hope of seeing His Glory. Christian's certainty
is based on the faithfulness and trustworthiness of God, in His character,
His intervention, and of His promises. The Holy Spirit gives the assurance to
believers that they belong to God and that His power is within them, securing
their belief of the significance of Christ. Believers have a conviction of
the knowledge in the faithfulness and trustworthiness of God.
