Before sunset, Joseph, a wealthy man of Arimathea, and Nicodemus, both Jewish Teachers and officials who were previously secret disciples of Jesus, became courageous enough to ask Pilate for permission to take His body. These two Jewish Teachers did not agree with the other Leaders regarding the bribe for betrayal, the arrest and the mock trial of Jesus. As an act of love, they gave Jesus and honourable burial, as foretold as an event pertaining to The Messiah in scripture. They placed Jesus' body in Joseph's rock-hewn tomb in a nearby garden and prepared his Body for burial, which fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 53:9. Two women, Mary Magdalene and Mary, mother of James, were watching nearby.
