WHY DO WE USE THE BIBLE?
The Bible is a Christian's guidebook, and is established as The Word Of God. The Bible has moral Laws, civil Laws and religious Laws. It offers us the opportunity to discern who God is and where we would spend our life eternally. It is very relevant to today's problems, each generation of humans remain the same, emotionally, creative, and knowledgeable. The Scriptures are not just for practical living and moral beliefs, they are nourishment and give effectiveness for Service unto God. The Bible is a Book of Redemption, it is not a book of History. It is a Book of Salvation and Deliverance for lost mankind. The whole of The Bible, both the New and the Old Testaments look to the reconciling Work of Christ. The Bible is a book like none other, it is a progressive revelation from God to mankind.
The Bible
summarises what is revealed
about God, who is The Creator of all. It chronicles His patience,
His Mercy, His constant willingness to forgive and restore.
Scripture records how people are to respond to His Salvation that
is offered, and that is the acknowledgement of His Son, Jesus.
God is zealous for His created people to recognise His greatness
and wisdom and to choose to live in obedience of His Word which
leads to abundant Life now and for everlasting. Readers gain
understanding of God's Word and should then lead a life according
to the light of God's Truth, as revealed by The Holy Spirit.
The Bible was written by prophets and priests in The
Old Testament and in The New Testament by evangelists and
eyewitnesses of Christ Himself. All the words were written down
under the divine inspiration of The Holy Spirit, prepared by God,
The Father, who invites us to become children of His Kingdom, to
grow and mature in His Care. The minds of these men were guided
by The Holy Spirit and He expressed the thoughts of God through
them- the messages He wanted for mankind. Jesus confirmed in Luke
16:17 that every word of scripture is given by God, The Father,
through The Holy Spirit. Scripture promises wonderful
rewards for Christians, both now in time and in eternity, to
those who trust and seek to obey His Word. All subjects are for
the Glory of God.
The Old Testament is
incomplete without the New Testament and The New Testament is
incomplete without The Old Testament, and each cannot be
understood without the other. i.e. All of Jesus' teachings came
from The Old Testament.
Jesus said, "Search the scriptures for they point to
me". John 5:39
Throughout the
Bible, Christ is Supreme. From Genesis to Revelation the Word
reveals Jesus Christ.
Revelation is divine understanding of wisdom or knowledge given to mankind through The Holy Spirit about God, concerning Himself and what He is doing for His people whom He created. God has revealed to mankind in The Bible that He is One God, with three distinct personalities- Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He has revealed that He is Spirit, He is Life, He is Merciful, Forgiving, Light, Love and a Consuming Fire. God has revealed Himself to mankind in the human body of Jesus Christ and as The Holy Spirit. The Life of Christ and The Acts of The Holy Spirit are recorded in The Bible for an example to follow and to grow in the knowledge of God.
The Bible tells us that there would be an accredited line of people in succession who would speak God's messages to mankind down through the ages. All of these people were tested thoroughly if they professed to be speaking on God's behalf. The scribes were very rigid in their testing of these people, signs and wonders always had to back up God's Word. Messages had to be constant with what was previously spoken by God's prophets and accepted as from God. The people feared to be led astray into a new doctrine, different from The Laws of Moses.
God gave man His Word to reveal His Purpose and Plan of His Anointed One (Christ, who was God made human), from Genesis to Revelation. God has used The Old Testament to foretell of The Coming Messiah, and in The New Testament believers identify and know Jesus, The Christ, is the fulfillment of these prophecies and He Himself said He was. Jesus, Himself was tested in every way by his fellowmen about The Written Word and especially by The Teachers and Lawyers of the time. Every test and trick they knew or could think up was put before Him and He always had answers from The Word of God.
The reliability of the scriptures is indicated by Jesus Himself, and that of the first disciples. Jesus rebuked those who were wrong in their opinions because of their ignorance of the Word of God-not even an angel from heaven can change the message said the Apostle Paul, who was the teacher to the Gentiles (non Jews). The Bible claims complete Divine Authority and the Ultimate Truth and lets the reader know that God is in charge of all things and nothing that happens is outside of His control.
THE MAIN TEACHING OF THE
BIBLE
IS LAW (OLD TESTAMENT) AND GRACE
(NEW TESTAMENT), BUT ALL OF
THE BIBLE TEACHES MANKIND TO TRUST AND BELIEVE, WITHOUT DOUBTING
THAT GOD IS, WHO HE IS, AND THAT HE IS SOVEREIGN KING OVER ALL
THINGS, THAT HE IS OUR ONLY REDEEMER AND HAS SAVED US FROM DEATH
AND DESTRUCTION THROUGH HIS
ONLY BEGOTTEN SON.
God's Word IS infallibile in its totality, authoritative and final, totally sufficient for needs. God's Word is Eternal. His Word is Divinely inspired, is for a lost world, is flawless, is The Source of Light, Life and Absolute Truth, provides food for the soul and spirit, cleanses and produces fruit The Word of God gives peace, it is a Double Edged Sword and it is The Power of God Almighty.
It contains the mind of God-the state of man,-the Way of Salvation-the doom of those who reject God and rebel-the happiness of believers of Christ. The Bible foretells of an earthly kingdom ruled by the Messiah-the salvation of Israelites-the salvation of the Gentiles-the renewal of the earth from the effects of the curse-the bodily resurrection of God's people who have died-a dissolution of the universe-the creation of a new heaven and earth-an eternal state for the godly and an eternal state for the ungodly.
The Bible has had a truly extrordinary history. For thousands of years it has not only been the most cherished book but also has undergone the most conflict and clashes of hostility than any other writngs. However, God's Word throughout the centuries has remained and still is the important book for and to mankind. The supernatural preservation of these scriptures is proof that God's purposes will prevail. The inspiring favourable contents of The Bible have never been equalled.
The Bible, given by God will always prevail, whatever
interpretation mankind in prejudices and ignorance limit its
teaching.
THE WORDS OF
THE BIBLE ARE ALIVE.
THEY ARE THE WORDS OF THE LIVING GOD
The Holy Spirit is actively leading repentant people through the scriptures for growth, knowledge and spiritual understanding.
The message of God's Word is the total answer to man's total need.
