The significance of Jesus' statement is that total devotion and adoration is required toward God because of who He is and what He does, and to show love for another is a natural development of love for God. Love for God is built from His love for people. No limitation should be set on love for a fellow human being, as one does generously for themselves. There is none to whom that obligation of love does not apply.
